Xpanceo is developing a prototype, possible in 20230
We are all familiar with smart glasses, but could the technology of the devices go one step further with a smart contact lens?
Dubai-based XPANCEO is one of the technology companies developing a prototype. They say it can offer everything from GPS to augmented reality.
The company says a version of the lens could be ready to buy in stores in 2030.
Smart contact lenses are high-tech lenses that go beyond traditional vision correction.
They include tiny wireless components like microchips and sensors that allow them to monitor health, collect data or display information directly into the individual’s field of vision.
Smart contact lenses have the potential for a wide range of uses, from health care to communication, but they are not yet widely available for general use.
How do smart contact lenses work?
Like traditional contact lenses, smart contact lenses are placed on the surface of the eye.
But unlike ordinary lenses contact, they contain tiny components that respond to changes in the eye as well as perceive things from the environment.
Ongoing research points to even greater possibilities in the future.
By tracking key factors on the surface of the eye, these smart lenses could one day support personalized health monitoring and beyond.
