Saudi authorities are deploying drones, artificial intelligence and advanced surveillance technologies during the 2026 Hajj season to monitor crowds, detect violations and prevent unauthorized access to holy sites, reports Anadolu.
Saudi newspaper “Okaz” said the technologies are part of an integrated security system and organization aimed at ensuring the safety of millions of pilgrims who gather in the countries every year.
Saudi authorities are using drones to track and capture violators of Hajj regulations, along with fixed-wing aircraft tasked with monitoring attempts to illegally enter holy sites under the slogan “No Hajj without permission,” according to the report.
The newspaper said the drones help security forces monitor large areas quickly and efficiently, allowing teams on the ground to receive instant alerts on related to suspicious movements and infiltration attempts.
The system also includes smart surveillance networks, high-resolution cameras and thermal imaging equipment.
Authorities are also relying on crowd analysis systems powered by artificial intelligence to predict congestion before it happens and redirect pilgrims away from congested roads, while facial recognition technology is being used to identify individuals and to strengthen security measures.
The Hajj pilgrimage is the fifth pillar of the Islamic faith, a ritual that must be performed by all Muslims if they can afford it, at least once in their lifetime.
