The US military struck a suspected drug-trafficking vessel in the Eastern Pacific on Wednesday, killing two people, the US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) announced, reports Anadolu.
“Intelligence confirmed that the vessel was moving along known narcotics-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and was involved in drug-trafficking operations,” said the statement published on the American social platform X.
“Two “male narco-terrorists were killed during this operation. No US military forces were harmed,” the statement added.
The incident is part of a wider military campaign targeting suspected drug-trafficking vessels in the region, which has left at least 194 dead since last September.
Legal experts and human rights organizations have warned that these attacks are illegal under international law and could amount to extrajudicial killings. emphasizing that they seem to target civilians.
