The Israeli military is turning to the US for additional systems and technology to counter Hezbollah drones after several unmanned aerial vehicles struck military positions in northern Israel on Wednesday, according to Israeli public broadcaster KAN, Anadolu reported.

KAN reported that the Lebanese group launched at least six drones towards northern Israel, with some of them exploding on military positions.

According to the news, the commander of the forces Major General Nadav Lotan is expected to travel to the US in the coming days to oversee acquisitions related to the growing drone threat.

Senior military officials, quoted by KAN without being identified, have said there are “no budget constraints” on efforts to counter the attacks.

KAN added that the military is making major efforts to improve warning systems against explosive drones targeting soldiers, including a new detection system developed to give alerts similar to anti-tank missile warning systems.

The public broadcaster said Hezbollah continued to launch explosive drones over the past 24 hours at Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, as well as at troops stationed inside Israel, with some of them hitting military facilities.

According to the news, the military still does not have an effective response to these attacks, despite repeated Israeli claims of progress in detecting and intercepting Hezbollah drones.

KAN also reported that several members of a security team in a settlement in northern Israel were injured after an explosive Hezbollah drone struck as they tried to help Israeli soldiers who had been targeted minutes earlier in a similar attack.

Hezbollah is also said to have increasingly used strike-first tactics. troops and then launching additional drones at rescue or evacuation teams that arrive afterward.

Earlier on Wednesday, Hezbollah said it carried out several drone attacks on concentrations of Israeli troops and military assets, including an Iron Dome system platform at the Jal al-Allam military position in northern Israel.

Hezbollah drones have become a growing concern for Israel in recent months, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described earlier as a “major threat” because of the difficulty in detecting them.

Since March 2, Israel has been waging an expanded offensive in Lebanon, killing more than 3,200 people, wounding more than 9,600 and displacing more than 1.6 million people, according to official figures.

The Israeli military has continued daily attacks despite a US-brokered ceasefire that entered effective April 17 and then extended until early July.
