Kosovo-US cooperation hits a cybercrime scheme

A coordinated operation between the Kosovo Police and the authorities of the United States of America has resulted in the arrest of a person in the Prizren region, who is suspected of illegally obtaining bank card data and personal information of American citizens, which then he distributed them on online platforms for misuse purposes.

The action was carried out by the Directorate of Cybercrimes Investigation in coordination with the Special Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Kosovo and by order of the Court, while the investigations were carried out in close cooperation with the American authorities.

According to the Kosovo Police, the suspect had acted with the purpose of illegal financial gain.

“The suspect, with the purpose of illegal financial gain for himself or the other person, he managed to obtain bank card data, as well as personal data, mainly of US citizens, in an unauthorized way. Then, he made these data available for misuse. by placing them on certain online platforms”, it is stated in the Police announcement, Klankosova.tv reports.

During the operation, the suspect was arrested, while by the decision of the State Prosecutor he was detained for 48 hours”. is expected to serve in the further investigation procedures.

“The case is in the further investigation process. Also, future actions will be taken in coordination with the US authorities”, it is further stated in the official announcement.

The authorities have not made public the identity of those arrested, while investigations into this suspected case of cybercrime are still ongoing.
