The United Kingdom Embassy has condemned the statements of Serbian Minister Snezana Paunovic, including her references to the ethnic cleansing of Kosovo, describing them as “completely unacceptable” and having no place in today’s society.
In a statement, the embassy emphasizes that at a time when the countries of the Western Balkans are focused on building a peaceful, stable and multi-ethnic future, such statements risk reopening past divisions and fuel tensions.
“Responsible political leaders must reject such language clearly and unequivocally,” the statement said.
The British Embassy also noted that the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has distanced himself from Minister Paunovic’s comments.
