A large explosion in southern Lebanon causes earthquakes in northern Israel

A large explosion in southern Lebanon triggered a slight earthquake in northern Israel today, amid ongoing ceasefire violations by Tel Aviv in the Arab country, Israeli media reported, Anadolu reports.

“The Geological Institute of Israel recorded a small earthquake in the north of the country following an explosion carried out by the Israeli army,” Channel 7 reported.

The broadcaster claimed that the blast targeted a large tunnel opened by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

The tunnel is located about 10 kilometers from the border, without extending into Israeli territory, the channel said.

Israel has continued attacks in Lebanon despite a temporary ceasefire.

US President Donald Trump first announced a ten-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon on April 17, before saying on Thursday that it would be extended for three week.

Prior to the ceasefire, Israel launched an offensive on March 2 that has killed at least 2,534 people and wounded 7,863 others, while displacing more than 1.6 million people, according to official figures.
