The telecast of the Academy Awards – the Oscars – drew 17.9 million viewers in the United States, down 9 percent from last year and the lowest result since 2022, according to Nielsen data released by broadcaster ABC.
This figure includes viewership on ABC and streaming platform Hulu, which are owned by The Walt Disney Company.
During ceremony, the best picture award went to One Battle After Another, while comedian Conan O’Brien hosted the ceremony for the second year in a row.
Awards viewership has been declining for years as audiences increasingly turn to streaming platforms and social networks. However, ABC reports that social media interactions are up 42 percent compared to 2025, reaching more than 184 million.
The most-watched Oscars broadcast was in 1998, when Titanic won the top prize and drew more than 57 million viewers. The lowest viewership was recorded in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, when 10.5 million people watched the ceremony.
The Oscars are scheduled to be broadcast on YouTube from 2029. /tesheshi.com/
