Mikel Arteta returned Arsenal to the Premier League title after 22 years of waiting, but in north London the question already arises whether Barcelona can tempt the Spanish coach to leave the “Emirates”.
Arteta is a product of the famous “La Masia” academy and has learned a lot from Pep Guardiola in terms of coaching. For this reason, his link with Barcelona could become a topic of discussion in the future.
Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour compared the situation to when Arsene Wenger was constantly linked with Real Madrid. Wenger, during his 22 years at Arsenal, won three league titles and led the famous Invincibles side in the 2003/04 season.
Despite interest from Real Madrid, he remained loyal to the London club until his departure in 2018.
Parlour believes Arteta could follow a similar path. “I think it’s a bit like Wenger’s case. There was a lot of talk about him going to Real Madrid, but he was very loyal. He knew what he was trying to build at Arsenal. Arteta could be similar,” Parlour said.
However, he admitted that nobody knows exactly what Arteta thinks about the future. “Sometimes as a coach you have dreams. If an opportunity comes that you can’t refuse, we have to wait and see. But I think there is still a lot of work to do at Arsenal, to fight for trophies every season and make history with the club,” he added.
Arteta’s current contract with Arsenal runs until the summer of 2027. The Spanish coach has recently said that there is no new news on the renewal, as the focus of his is at the end of the season.
“I am fully committed and very happy. I feel good, my family is good and I still have a lot of ambitions with this club. At the moment we are in a good place”, declared Arteta.
Arsenal celebrated the Premier League title after last week’s victory over Crystal Palace, but the season is not over yet. “The Gunners” have before them the final of the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain on May 30 in Budapest, where they will seek the first trophy in the history of this competition. /GazetaExpress/
