The law on gender equality recently voted by the Parliament of Albania, except on paper, is not expected to change anything in the lives of Albanians, neither for the better nor for the worse.

The reason is simple: identity or identities, whether cultural, religious, linguistic or even gender, can neither be defined nor denied by law.

Fortunately, in Albanian society, such topics are only part or part of certain agendas, or of NGOs that exist financially only through the promotion of such discussions.

The problems of everyday Albania are of a different nature and character. Poverty, corruption, lack of justice, unemployment or immigration, they don’t want to know about what people declare or want to feel.

Talking about “gender equality” in a country where thousands of women and men share the same economic and social fate, is not serious at all.

As a society, despite the characteristic deformations of the transition, we still remain sensitive to the family, the man/woman ratio and the sense of moral and immoral, which cannot be undone by laws, just as they cannot be established or imposed by such.

The desecration that “modernity” has given to these elements in certain parts of the world, fortunately, has not yet affected our society, so any fear of this nature is excessive and unjustified.

Despite the above, in this context, we see a majority that is ready to vote all that is required to give the idea of progress, as well as a tired, grotesque, visionless opposition that wastes energy on peripheral debates and does not take responsibility for the lack of representation that has left this country.

That people are equal in rights and duties, this is absolute, but that the original determination and the need to continue the existence of human nature, is fundamentally clear about the way and the way forward, this is also not it cannot be done, nor can it be undone.

The beliefs and feelings of the individual cannot be imposed, so a country that maintains some values of coexistence and morality, identity can neither be voted for nor denied, because it is simply lived as you wish to feel and live it.
