The technology tycoon, Elon Musk, this week traveled to China together with the US president, Donald Trump, despite his ongoing trial, reports Anadolu.
The trial is related to a lawsuit that Musk has filed against the artificial intelligence company OpenAI. As co-founder of the startup, Musk claims the company betrayed its original non-profit mission by creating a for-profit branch.
Musk testified in court in the US state of California last month. At one of the hearings, a judge asked the respective parties if there was any reason to keep Musk on recall status as a witness.
After hearing a “yes” answer from OpenAI’s defense, the judge told Musk: “You are not free, but you can leave for the day.” The NBC News report said Musk had not received permission from the judge before leaving the country and was still subject to being recalled as a witness.
A court spokeswoman said she did not know whether Musk had received permission to leave the area or whether his travel could pose a problem for the court process.
Musk’s absence could cause a problem if OpenAI, co-defendant Microsoft or the judge subpoena him again. testified Wednesday, which is scheduled to be the last day of evidence in the trial.
By midday Wednesday, he had not been called again. Closing statements are scheduled for Thursday.
