Griezmann says goodbye to Atletico Madrid, transfer to MLS is expected

Antoine Griezmann played his last home game in the Atletico Madrid shirt, ending a successful era at the Spanish club.

The Frenchman gave an emotional farewell to the fans at the “Metropolitano” stadium, as Atletico beat Girona 1-0. In his 500th appearance for the club, the 35-year-old registered his 100th assist, contributing to Ademola Lookman’s goal.

Griezmann leaves Atletico as one of the most important players in the club’s history, with 212 goals and several trophies won during his two spells in Madrid.

“I am happy to have been able to enjoy these years with him. He should have won the Ballon d’Or. He still has many years ahead of him in the United States,” Oblak told the media.

The French forward is expected to join Orlando City in MLS as a free agent, starting a new adventure in American soccer./04 Online
