American Pope, outspoken against sexual abusers
Pope Leo XIV has publicly reprimanded German bishops for guidelines allowing same-sex couples to receive church blessings.
“The Holy See has already spoken to the German bishops … and made it clear that we do not agree with the formalized blessing of couples, in this case homosexual couples or couples in irregular situations, beyond what, if desired, Pope Francis has expressly allowed by saying that all people should receive a blessing,” Leo said.
The Archbishop of Munich-Freising, Cardinal Reinhard Marx, approved the blessing of same-sex couples in his archdiocese earlier this week.
Marx’s position was based on guidelines issued by the German Bishops’ Conference and the Central Committee of Catholics in Germany, which were considered consistent with Pope Francis’ views on
However, his successor Leo, the first pope from the United States, is considered more conservative.
During the flight home from Equatorial Guinea, Lav told reporters that “unity or division should not revolve around sexual issues,” dpa reports.
He emphasized that “there are much bigger and more important issues such as justice, equality, freedom of man and woman, freedom of religion, all of which should take priority in relation to that specific issue”.
Leo stated that “Francis’ well-known expression is ‘tuti, tuti, tuti'” – meaning ‘everyone, everyone, everyone’, an expression of the Church’s belief that everyone is welcome, that everyone is called to follow Jesus and that everyone is called to transformation in their lives”.
“Going beyond that today, I think this topic can cause more division than unity,” added Pope. /tesheshi.com/
