The spokesman for the presidency of the Iranian Parliament, Abbas Goudarzi, said that Iran stands “united against the enemy” amid ongoing tensions with the US and Israel, the state news agency Anadolu reported today.
“We have no differences, we are one nation and our goal is one. Our commonalities far exceed the differences that exist”, IRNA quotes Goudarzi as saying.
“The role of the people is important. The people make the square more lively and support the negotiating team and diplomacy. The presence of the people can also affect the outcome of the negotiations with the US,” he said.
Goudarz’s remarks came after US President Donald Trump last week extended what was originally a two-week ceasefire brokered by Pakistan that began on April 8. Trump said he would suspend further action until the Iranian leadership can bring a unified position to the table.
The truce ended a weeks-long war that began with US and Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28 and was followed by retaliatory attacks by Tehran.
Washington and Tehran held talks in the Pakistani capital Islamabad on April 11-12 to end the war, but they did not reach an agreement. Efforts for another round of negotiations are underway.
