Macron deploys aircraft carrier near Cyprus, Europe demonstrates military might

The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has visited Cyprus together with the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, while Europe is sending strong political and military signals to the eastern Mediterranean amid rising tensions in the region.

France has deployed important military assets, including the aircraft carrier “Charles de Gaulle” and a combat frigate near Cyprus. At the same time, Greece has deployed frigates and F-16 fighter jets to bolster its military presence in the area.

Macron’s visit follows security concerns after a drone attack was reported near the British RAF Akrotiri military base in Cyprus.

During the visit, Macron stressed that any attack on Cyprus would be considered an attack on Europe, underscoring the need for greater defense cooperation and strengthening of European strategic autonomy.

Meanwhile, a new report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) shows that Europe is expanding its role in global defense, while arms exports from European countries have increased significantly in recent years.

European leaders say that due to the war in Ukraine and tensions in the Middle East, protecting trade routes, energy supplies and regional stability has become a top priority. /message
