A new national poll in the US finds that more than half of Americans oppose the current military action against Iran, with 62 percent believing that President Donald Trump’s administration has not provided a clear explanation for the attack, reports Anadolu.

A new national poll from Quinnipiac University finds that 53 percent oppose continued attacks and 40 percent support them. Democrats are overwhelmingly opposed (89 percent) while Republicans support (85 percent) US military action against Iran.

According to the poll, 74 percent oppose sending US ground troops to Iran while 20 percent support the idea. Most voters expect the conflict to last months or more, rather than end quickly.

Trump’s foreign policy received 40 percent approval and 57 percent disapproval. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has 40 percent approval and 47 percent disapproval of his handling of the job. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth received 37 percent approval and 52 percent disapproval.

However, voters are split on the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on the first day of a joint Israeli-American attack on Tehran, with 48 percent believing it was justified and 43 percent disapproving.

The poll was conducted from 6 to March 8 among 1,002 self-identified registered voters.
