Students in the West Bank conduct their lessons on the street due to the closure of the road by the Israelis

Palestinian students in the village of Ummul Hayr in the Mesafir Yatta area of Khalil (Hebron), in the southern West Bank, were forced to continue their schooling on the street after a long break, due to the blockade of a road by Israeli settlers.

Approximately 55 students were unable to attend school after fanatical Israelis blocked the road used by the students to go to school at in the morning.

Residents of the village staged a sit-in protest to demand the opening of the road, and it was reported that the Israeli army intervened, using tear gas and directly hitting the children.

Palestinian activist and teacher, Tariq al-Hazzalin, told Anadolu that: “The Israeli squatters blocked the road that the students use to go to school. We informed the police, but they did not intervene at all.” way”.

He stated that the incident was not just a road closure, but a systematic practice that hinders children’s right to education.

Hezzalin stated that approximately 300 residents live in the village and 55 students have been deprived of education, stressing that the repression negatively affects daily life.

Sera, a 6th grader forced to learn on the street, said: “We woke up in the morning, we prepared to go to school, but we found the road closed. The Israelis, who are occupying the Palestinian lands, had blocked the road;

Noting that they returned to school after a long break, Sera said: “For about 40 days, we were away from education because of the (US/Israel-Iran) war”.

Sharing the information that “We organized a sit-in protest during the road closure, but the Israeli army threw tear gas at us. We had to sit and study in the street,” said Sera, “We want to learn, live and get an education like other children in the world.”

Residents of the village stated that the attacks and long restrictions have made their lives difficult and that basic services such as water and electricity are cut off.

Officials sometimes Palestinians state that attacks by Israelis who have occupied Palestinian land in the West Bank have increased recently and that similar violations are occurring in many villages and settlements.

Tension in the region is said to seriously affect the daily lives of Palestinian civilians and especially children’s right to education.

Since Israel launched its offensive on the Gaza Strip in October 2023, there has been a significant increase in attacks targeting Palestinians and their property by Israeli soldiers and Israelis occupying Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Since October 2023, 1,139 Palestinians have reportedly been killed, approximately 11,700 injured, and nearly 22,000 detained in attacks in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
