The US President, Donald Trump, has declared that Iran has 48 hours to meet Washington’s demands and reach an agreement or reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Anadolu reports.
“Do you remember when I gave Iran ten days to reach an agreement or open the Strait of Hormuz? Time is running out, 48 hours before ‘hell’ falls on them,” Trump said on his social platform Truth Social.
On March 26, Trump said he had extended the deadline for Iran’s nuclear negotiations by 10 days, in part because of what he described as a gesture of understanding from Tehran.
The region has been on alert since the launch of a joint US-Israel offensive against Iran on February 28 that killed more than 1,340 people, including then-supreme leader Ali Khamenei.
Iran has retaliated with drone and missile attacks that have targeted Israel, Jordan, Iraq and the Gulf countries that host US forces. Also, Iran has restricted the movement of ships in the Strait of Hormuz
