All the initiatives with which the new “Safe City” system, for traffic control in Skopje, Kumanovo and Tetovo, was contested from a constitutional and legal point of view have been rejected, the constitutional judges decided in today’s session.
According to the judges, the system does not cause inequality between citizens in the way that the presenters of some initiatives claimed.
For the presenters, the fact that the official communication of the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the citizens does not use the Albanian language as the official language in the state, as well as the fact that the system is implemented only in Skopje, Tetovo and Kumanovo, was problematic.
Also, they objected to the fact that with this project citizens are legally obliged to have a personal telephone number and email address.
The decision was taken after the judges, depending on their ethnicity, had different attitudes as to whether or not the rights of some citizens were violated.
The reporting judge, Ana Pavlovska-Daneva, stated at the beginning of the session that she believes that the initiatives should be rejected.
