Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) stated today that Ukraine is preparing a new wave of drone attacks on Russian regions, using Latvian territory to launch unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), reports Anadolu.
“Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s regime is determined to show its ideological and financial patrons in Europe that the Ukrainian armed forces retain combat potential and the ability to inflict damage on the Russian economy,” said the SVR.
The agency claims that the Ukrainian forces plan not only to use the air corridors previously offered by the Baltic states, but also to launch drones directly from their territory to reduce the flight time and increase the effectiveness of the attacks.
“According to the information received, Kiev does not intend to limit itself to the use of the air corridors that the Baltic countries had offered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). for the drones to be launched from the territory of these states,” the SVR said.
Moscow claims that Latvia agreed to support the operation despite concerns about possible retaliation. The statement said that Ukrainian personnel from the country’s Unmanned Systems Forces were already stationed at Latvian military bases, including Adazi, Selia, Lielvarde, Daugavpils and Jekabpils.
The SVR further warned that modern reconnaissance capabilities make it possible to identify drone launch sites, including the analysis of drone debris.
“It would be worth remembering that the coordinates of the center decision-making in the Latvian territory are well known and the country’s membership in NATO will not protect the collaborators of terrorists from righteous retaliation”, she emphasized.
