According to a recent survey, 79 percent of Germans were dissatisfied with the performance of the government, which consists of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), its Bavarian sister party, the Christian Social Union (CSU) and the center-left Social Democratic Party (SPD), reports Anadolu.
According to data from the analytics company YouGov, this figure was 55 percent in the first opinion poll conducted. in June 2025.
The change in sentiment is particularly pronounced among voters of Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s CDU party, after 48 percent of them were satisfied with the government in March, this figure fell to just 34 percent in April.
Meanwhile, the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is currently the strongest political force in Germany. In the latest poll, the party is reported to have 27 percent support, an increase of one percentage point from last month.
In contrast, the coalition parties have suffered significant losses, with the CDU/CSU falling by three percentage points to 23 percent, the lowest figure recorded in the YouGov poll since December 2021.
The Social Democratic Party (SPD) remains in 13 percent, a decrease of one percentage point. The Greens and the Left in opposition have each gained one percentage point, reaching 14 percent and 10 percent respectively.
