Albanian in Switzerland tried to sell detergent to an undercover police officer as cocaine, sentenced for fraud
A 28-year-old Albanian man has been sentenced by the Swiss authorities after he tried to deceive an undercover police investigator, selling him laundry detergent instead of cocaine.
The incident took place at the central train station in Zürich and ended with the arrest of the young man just a few minutes after handing over the “the goods”.
According to the Swiss media and the criminal order of the Zürich-Limmat Prosecutor’s Office, the contact between the two was established through a Facebook profile named “Hello Halil”. After online communications, the parties had agreed on the sale of 50 grams of cocaine for the sum of 2,400 Swiss francs.
The meeting took place on January 2, around 20:25, near a platform at the main train station in Zürich. The suspect handed the investigator an ash-colored sock, inside which was a hermetically sealed plastic bag, claiming to contain the ordered narcotic substance.
However, when the agent demanded that the package be opened to verify the contents, the 28-year-old refused. After the arrest and control of the substance by the authorities, it turned out that there was no cocaine in the bag, but laundry detergent.
According to the Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung, the prosecution did not accuse the young man of drug trafficking, but of attempted fraud. The legal reasoning is based on the fact that he had attempted to profit illegally by exploiting the buyer’s trust and offering a fake product that could not be immediately checked.
The 28-year-old, who had no permanent residence in Switzerland, was held in custody for two days.
In the end, he was fined 1,200 Swiss francs, as well as 800 additional francs for court costs.
