China today condemned “indiscriminate” attacks against civilians and expressed disapproval of attacks targeting the Gulf region, reports Anadolu.
“Beijing does not agree with attacks against countries in the Gulf region and condemns indiscriminate attacks against civilians or non-military targets,” said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun, during a regular press conference in Beijing.
“Urgent priority” now is to immediately stop military operations and prevent the spread of the conflict. The way out of the conflict is to return to dialogue and negotiations as soon as possible and strive for the restoration of peace,” Guo said.
He called for a return to respect for international law and called the US and Israel’s attack on Iran in the negotiation process a clear violation of international law.
“The sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of countries must be respected,” Guo added.
In a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi last week, senior Chinese diplomat Wang Yi said Beijing believes that in the current grave and complex situation, Iran will maintain national and social stability while taking the legitimate concerns of neighboring countries seriously.
Regional escalation has erupted since February 28, when Israel and the US launched joint strikes. against Iran, killing more than 1,200 people and injuring 10,000 others. Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and the Gulf countries that host US military assets.
