The European Parliament in its report has expressed concern about the level of corruption in Kosovo. In the document approved on Wednesday (June 17), it is stated that “corruption remains a systemic problem that undermines the functioning of public institutions and the trust of citizens”. In the report, it expresses “deep concern about the insufficient progress in the fight against this phenomenon”.

The MEPs have also expressed their concern about the fall of Kosovo in the Corruption Perception Index for 2025.

The European Parliament has called on the institutions in Kosovo to “without delay” adopt and implement concrete measures in the prevention, investigation and prosecution of corrupt acts.

“It calls in particular for the rapid adoption of a national anti-corruption strategy and action plan for the period 2025-2028, stronger use of wealth declaration and integrity plans, as well as more effective implementation of confiscation mechanisms in corruption cases; emphasizes the need to strengthen the independence and operational capacity of anti-corruption bodies and to ensure effective coordination between prosecutors, police and financial intelligence units; draws attention to the fact that the Commission’s previous recommendations for strengthening the capacities of the Anti-Corruption Agency and the implementation of anti-corruption legislation have not yet been implemented; and calls for continuous improvement of the quality of investigations in corruption cases high”, says the document approved in the European Parliament.

On Wednesday (June 17), the European Parliament approved the report on Kosovo with 412 votes for, 174 against and 58 abstentions.
