“France will stand by the World Health Organization, alongside all the international organizations present, to protect effective multilateralism”, said Macron
French President Emmanuel Macron warned that the current international situation stemming from wars, divisions and suspicions towards collective organizations is weakening cooperation in the field of health, reports Anadolu.
Emphasizing that a world accompanied by wars disrupts issues of supply, security and strategic autonomy, Macron warned that the challenges of global health more than ever require coordination and cooperation.
“We are facing an international situation that is tearing apart this very cooperation: wars, divisions, decline in contributions and doubts expressed by some towards our collective organization”, Macron said at the “One Health” summit held in Lyon.
He emphasized that such summits are held to respond to the “fragmentation of the international order”, building coalitions of different actors and showing that “multilateralism effective is still possible”.
“We have reaffirmed – and we reaffirm for this ‘One Health’ summit – first of all that any progress depends on free, open and independent science. This is an absolute necessity”, emphasized Macron.
He warned that global health will not progress if science becomes an “instrument of politics”, or a tool where governments dictate what can and cannot be studied.
“More let me reaffirm that France will stand by the World Health Organization, by all the international organizations present, to defend effective multilateralism – a vision rooted in science and in the collective decisions we must make”, he added.
He reiterated that the world has no right to forget what happened in the past. “We have the obligation to prepare for today’s and tomorrow’s challenges. It is up to us to act”, emphasized the French president.
