International reports continue to demolish the government narrative of “economic growth”, “welfare” and “historic development” in Kosovo.

Despite institutional propaganda and statistics selected by the government, international economic indicators are showing deep stagnation and a low level of living standards for citizens.

According to the report published by WorldAtlas, based on data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) WEO 2025) for GDP per capita according to purchasing power (PPP), Kosovo ranks as the second poorest country in Europe, right after Moldova.

The report reflects the real level of the standard of living and highlights the difference between political statements and the economic situation that citizens face every day. Rising prices, low wages, mass emigration and economic difficulties continue to remain serious challenges for many families in Kosovo.

According to the data of the report, Moldova remains the poorest country in Europe with GDP per capita according to PPP of about 19,700 dollars. Kosovo ranks after it with about 20,400 dollars per capita, followed by Ukraine with 21,000 dollars, Bosnia and Herzegovina with 22,800 dollars, North Macedonia with 24,300 dollars, Belarus with 25,500 dollars, Albania with 25,600 dollars, Serbia with 28,500 dollars, Montenegro with 31,000 dollars and Bulgaria with 36,000 dollars.

The report states that, despite the claims of economic development, Kosovo continues to remain among the countries with the lowest standard of living in Europe. The economy remains mainly dependent on remittances, imports and consumption, while domestic production and strategic investments continue to be considered insufficient.

However, despite these statistics and international assessments, institutions in Kosovo continue to promote narratives of economic progress and improvement of social welfare, while international reports present a different picture of the economic reality in the country.
