Hungary’s new Prime Minister, Peter Magyar, has expressed his desire to strengthen relations with Poland and expand the regional cooperation format of the Visegrad Group, reports Anadolu.

Speaking in the Polish city of Krakow as part of a two-day visit, according to Polish broadcaster TVP World, Magyar said that the Visegrad Group, consisting of four Central European countries (Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic), can expands to include Austria and other countries.

The Hungarian prime minister said he would like a revived Visegrad Group to have a strong Polish-Hungarian axis.

The visit marks his first official trip abroad since his inauguration on May 9, and he is expected to hold meetings with President Karol Nawrocki and Prime Minister Donald Tusk tomorrow.

Magyar’s Tisza party defeated former Prime Minister Viktor Orban in the April 12 parliamentary elections, bringing about a political transition in the EU member state.

Magyar ran on an open pro-European platform, promising more cooperation with the country’s EU allies.
