The US Navy warns sailors to avoid the Strait of Hormuz due to the risk of mines

US Navy Central Command has issued an urgent maritime warning, calling on ship owners, operators and sailors to avoid the dangerous area of military operations in the Strait of Hormuz, north of Oman’s Musandam Peninsula, Anadolu reports.

According to the advisory issued by the US Navy and the Joint Maritime Information Center, the threat level in the region has been assessed as “critical”, citing efforts of Iran to illegally control this strategic waterway by laying mines that endanger ships and crews.

All sailors were advised to avoid the traffic area of the Strait of Hormuz and instead coordinate their passage with US maritime authorities.
