The US President, Donald Trump, has announced that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a temporary ceasefire and a large exchange of prisoners, describing this as a possible step towards ending the ongoing war, reports Anadolu.

“I am pleased to announce that there will be a three-day ceasefire (May 9, 10 and 11) in the war between Russia and Ukraine,” Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform.

According to to President Trump, the ceasefire will include a “suspension of all hostilities” and a reciprocal exchange of 1,000 prisoners from each side.

“This request was made directly by me, and I greatly appreciate its acceptance by President Vladimir Putin and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. We hope that this is the beginning of the end of a very long, deadly and bitter war. Talks to end this major conflict, the largest since World War II, they continue and we’re getting closer every day,” he said.
