UN Women has announced that over 38,000 women and girls have been killed in the Gaza Strip by the end of last year, as a result of the war that started on October 7, 2023.
According to a report published on Friday, about 22,000 women and 16,000 girls have lost their lives in the period from October 2023 to December 2025, mainly from aerial bombardments and operations. The report states that even though a ceasefire was declared in October of last year, the killings of women and girls have continued in recent months, showing that the risk to their lives remains high. the humanitarian sector at this agency, Sofia Calltorp, said that the victims “are more than numbers”, stressing that they were mothers, daughters and sisters with lives and dreams of their own.
The report also notes that around 11 thousand women and girls have been injured with permanent consequences, while the real number of victims is believed to be higher due to the bodies that are still under the rubble and the difficulties in documentation.
According to the UN, The war has changed the family structure in Gaza, where many women have become heads of households after losing their husbands, while facing a lack of income and basic services.
Officials warn that severe damage to infrastructure and restrictions on aid access have further worsened the humanitarian situation, making access to health care and life support difficult.
The UN emphasizes the need for accountability for violations of international law and for the protection of women and girls, asking that aid reach all those who need it without any obstacles. /message
