Today marks 27 years since the massacre in the village of Poklek i Vjetër and Čikatovo i Vjetër, municipality of Drenas, where the Serbian army massacred and killed, then burned the corpses of 77 unarmed Albanian civilians, ranging from six-month-old babies to 75-year-old elders. they killed, massacred and some of them were burned. Even after two decades, none of the order givers and executioners was punished by justice.
Only in the village of Old Poklek, the barbaric Serbian army massacred and killed, then burned the corpses of 53 unarmed civilian Albanians, ranging from six-month-old babies to 75-year-old old men.
According to many witnesses, the Poklek massacre had this flow:
-On April 17, around five o’clock in the morning, the Muqolli, Caraku and Elshani families started to go from Old Poklek to Drenas, where the population of the villages around Drenas was gathered and held hostage. Somewhere 1.5 km away from the village, a picgauer with Serbian police came and ordered them to return to the house. They have returned because they have been threatened, and they have even been shot from the side. When the family returned home, two policemen with black headbands came there. They killed the dog in the yard, then they called Sinan outside and spoke to him in Serbian. After that, these two policemen went to the courtyard of the village school, to the other policemen who were there. In the meantime, Sinan has returned and told the families that they asked him, “are there terrorists here”? In this state of anxiety and terror, the family members were kept all day until around 5:30 p.m., then one of those policemen came and in the room of Sinan’s house, where all the families, children, women and old people were gathered, the policeman threw a bomb which did not explode. After that, the police threw the other bomb, which fell and exploded in the lap of Miradije Rifat Muqolli (55). Immediately after that, the policeman fired seven rounds of the machine gun at all those who shot in the room. The criminal who had committed the massacre entered the room and turned the corpses around with his feet, lest by chance someone was left alive. In the meantime, the wounded Elhemja jumped from the window of the slaughter room and ran away. After two and a half hours of the massacre, Lumnija also ran away with her little four-year-old daughter, leaving slightly injured Eminen and two-year-old Fatos. Later, Emine’s jacket was found in the well of the house. After three hours, since the massacre was carried out, the police returned and burned the room with all the corpses that were in it. On the second night of the massacre, we went to the house and there we found the remains of the massacred, when we went a day later, we could not even see human remains. Not only the room and the corridor had been burned, but the whole house.
