Data from open flight tracking sources indicated a possible mobilization of American paratroopers from the East Coast of the USA towards the Middle East and specifically Iran, reports Anadolu.

While it is not known exactly who is on these flights, namely six flights that were launched from Fort Bragg, a military base in the state of North Carolina about 450 kilometers south of Washington, suggest that elements of the Force of the Rapid Reaction Force of the 82nd Airborne Division may have been mobilized.

The Rapid Reaction Force consists of approximately 3,000 paratroopers capable of being deployed anywhere in the world within 18 hours. According to a New York Times report, these forces could be used to take control of Kharg Island, Iran’s main oil export hub in the Persian Gulf.

Defense officials told the newspaper that elements of the 82nd Airborne Division have been considered in the planning, but no order has been given by the Pentagon or US Central Command (CENTCOM).

At least 35 C-17 military transport aircraft. have moved from US bases to the Middle East since March 12, following the launch of the war on Iran on February 28, while another 11 are currently en route.

Tracking data shows three main destinations so far, namely 17 aircraft at Ovda Air Base in Israel, 13 at King Faisal Air Base and four at King Hussein International Airport, both in Jordan.

These developments follow a decision by in early March by the US Army to abruptly cancel a major exercise involving the command element of the 82nd Airborne Division, citing the need to maintain high combat readiness.
