Prime Minister Rama meets his Japanese counterpart in Tokyo: We support the Indo-Pacific strategy

The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, has stated that Albania supports the “updated free and open Indo-Pacific strategy”, reports Anadolu.

Prime Minister Rama is conducting an official visit to Japan, while an official ceremony has been hosted by the Japanese Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi.

In his statement during the meeting, Prime Minister Rama stated that they expect the strengthening of relations between the two countries.

“The relationship Japan-Albania is a relationship which is based on common values and principles for the world we want to live in. It is true that I have seen the Indo-Pacific strategy and we fully support it. As we fully support the entire content of this strategy, we are very much looking forward to exploring different possibilities of how we can approach Japan.

Remembering that next year in Tirana the NATO Summit will be held”, Rama invited his counterpart Takaichi to participate in this summit.

Prime Minister Takaichi stated that Albania is an important partner, with which they share common values and principles.

“We are satisfied that the negotiations for Albania’s membership in the European Union are progressing progress steadily. Japan, within the framework of the proposed Cooperation Initiative with the Western Balkans, will continue to strongly support Albania’s EU membership. I express respect to Albania for the active contribution it makes to regional stability in the Western Balkans, a region with a complex history,” said Takaichi.

She added that she thanks Prime Minister Rama for Albania’s support to the vision of “a free and open Indo-Pacific”.

Meanwhile, in a reaction on social networks, Rama has considered the visit and reception by the homologation as a significant moment for the further strengthening of partnership relations between Albania and Japan.

“Albania unreservedly supports the Updated Free and Open Indo-Pacific Strategy, as a vision that promotes peace, security, freedom of navigation, respect for international law and cooperation between nations in a region of crucial importance for the future of the world. Likewise, Albania and Japan share the same steadfast stance in support of Ukraine and against Russian aggression, as a challenge to the rules-based international order,” Rama wrote.

Prime Minister Rama is accompanied on this visit by several government cabinet ministers and other officials, while he also held a meeting with the Japan-Albania Parliamentary Friendship League.

According to the Prime Minister of Albania, Rama is conducting an official visit to Japan, from May 21-23, “with the aim of further strengthening relations between the two countries and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest”.
