Inflation in March reached 6.7 percent

The increase in consumer prices continued during the month of March, confirming the inflationary trend in the country. According to data from the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, monthly inflation reached 1.5 percent compared to February, while the annual inflation rate was recorded at 6.7 percent compared to March of last year.

According to KAS, this is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in this period of fuel and lubricants for personal transport equipment (25.8%), vegetables (3.7%), trees (1.5%) and meat (0.3%) with a joint impact of these subgroups of 1.7 percent in the IHÇK.

While a drop in prices is observed in electricity (-3.7%) and solid fuels, firewood, pellets, etc. (-2.2%) with an impact of -0.2 percent on the HICP.

“The overall harmonized index of consumer prices is higher by an average of 6.7% in March 2026 compared to March 2025. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in this period in COICOP groups and subgroups: other services related to personal transport equipment (42.5%), flight tickets (38.4%), water supply and various services related to residence (31.9%), electricity (17.4%), fuels and lubricants for personal transport equipment (17.4%), solid fuels, firewood, pellets, etc. (15.6%), organized holidays (13.2%), trees (13.1%), meat (12.4%), coffee, tea and cocoa (7.8%), hotel services (6.9%), food products (6.8%), sugar, jams, honey, chocolate and sweets (5.7%), ambulatory services (5.6%), personal care (5.2%), goods and services for general household maintenance (5.1%), vegetables (4.9%), personal effects (4.4%), bread and cereals (4.1%), tobacco (4.1%), alcoholic beverages (3.9%), medical products, apparatus and equipment (3.9%), furniture and furnishings, carpets and other floor coverings (3.8%), home and garden tools and equipment (3.8%), home maintenance and repair (3.4%), milk, cheese and eggs (3.4%), mineral water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (2.7%), glassware, cutlery and kitchen utensils (2.3%), clothing (2.2%) and changes in the prices of products and services of some subgroups with a small impact on IHÇK with a joint impact of these subgroups of 6.7 percent on IHÇK”, says the KAS communiqué.
