Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will be absent from a UN Security Council meeting on Tuesday due to issues related to the US visa, Esmail Baqaei, a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry, said on Monday, Anadolu reports.

“We encountered a problem related to the US visa,” Baqaei told reporters in comments carried by state news agency IRNA.

The minister Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will host Tuesday’s meeting amid continuing tensions between the US and Iran.

The meeting, themed “Protecting the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter and Strengthening the International System Centered in the UN”, comes as the conflict between the US and Iran continues with a fragile ceasefire brokered by Pakistan on April 8, suspending fighting that began on February 28 when Israel and the US launched military attacks against Tehran.
