The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has stated that the approval in principle of the Draft Law for the State Bureau for the Verification and Confiscation of Unjustified Assets constitutes an important step for strengthening justice in the country.
Speaking at the Government meeting, Kurti emphasized that the law must also pass the second reading in the Assembly, despite the objections that, according to him, have been numerous from the beginning.
He expressed that the draft law has provoked strong reactions, including complaints to the Constitutional Court, but underlined that the executive will not withdraw from this commitment.
“We know that the name of the law has upset many, that is why the objections have been great, even wrapped as complaints to the Constitutional Court, they are still great, but we cannot and will not stop. We will implement this commitment, the bureau will be made and we will the slogan ‘small salary, big profit’ will come to an end”, declared Kurti.
The Prime Minister added that illegally acquired wealth can neither be considered private nor legitimate.
The draft law was approved in principle on Friday with 81 votes in favor, while PDK and LDK MPs expressed reservations about its content, who requested revision of some provisions.
