Iranian state media: No new talks with US expected

Iranian state media have signaled that a new round of talks between Iran and the United States is not expected.

Although there was no direct reaction from Iranian officials to US President Donald Trump’s statements about negotiations, reports from unidentified sources suggest that the meetings will not take place.

According to Iranian media, President Masoud Pezeshkian during a telephone conversation with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stressed that US actions, including pressure and unreasonable behavior, have increased mistrust of Washington and fears of “betrayal of diplomacy”.

The state-run IRNA agency reported that Tehran has rejected new peace talks, citing the ongoing blockade, unstable US positions and excessive demands.

Meanwhile, state broadcaster IRIB quoted Iranian sources as saying that “currently there are no plans to participate in the next round of Iran-US talks”.

Fars News Agency and Tasnim News Agency also reported earlier, referring to anonymous sources, that the atmosphere for negotiations “is not very positive”, adding that the lifting of the US blockade remains a precondition for any dialogue. /message
