US President Donald Trump has repeated that the US will secure Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium “one way or another”, reports Anadolu.
“We want to get it. We will get it one way or another. We will get it… They will either give it to us or we will take it. It won’t be difficult,” Trump said at the White House.
The president’s comments come amid an ongoing stalemate between the US and Iran, as talks on a permanent end to the war, which have been extended by the US president, remain deadlocked.
Reports have indicated that Iran has proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz, while postponing the issue of its nuclear program to later negotiations.
Yesterday, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, said that verification efforts of the agency have been hampered by security conditions on the ground.
He said inspectors were scheduled to visit a new nuclear facility declared by Iran on June 13 of last year, but the US-Israeli attacks began on the same day.
“The approach was supposed to be on June 13, the day the attacks began,” he said, adding that time made the inspection impossible.
Grossi said the agency has been monitoring since near a large amount of enriched uranium in Iran before the escalation of the conflict.
