Israeli Defense Minister: War with Iran may resume “soon”

Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, has warned that the war with Iran may resume “soon”, reports Anadolu.

“It is possible that soon we will have to act again to ensure the achievement of the objectives”, Katz said during a military activity at the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense in Tel Aviv.

“Iran has suffered extremely heavy blows over the past year, blows that have set it back years in all areas”. he added in his remarks reported by Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper.

Israeli threats of a possible resumption of attacks on Iran are seen by observers as part of efforts to push the US toward new military action.

Last week, Katz said Israel is waiting for a “green light” from the US to resume war against Iran.

According to Axios, Command The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has prepared plans that could include attacks on Iranian infrastructure, as well as broader options such as increasing naval pressure in the Strait of Hormuz.

The proposals are said to be aimed at forcing Iran to return to negotiations with more flexibility, particularly on the nuclear issue.

The US and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28, prompting Tehran to retaliate against US allies in the Persian Gulf and closing the Strait of Hormuz.

A ceasefire was announced on April 8 brokered by Pakistan, followed by talks in Islamabad on April 11, but no agreement was reached. The US President, Donald Trump, later extended the ceasefire without a new deadline, at the request of Pakistan.
