A Chinese crude oil tanker passed through the Strait of Hormuz today, according to ship tracking data, Anadolu.

The tanker, identified as Yuan Hua Hu, was seen sailing near Iran’s Larak Island before continuing its journey, according to MarineTraffic data cited in the report.

The vessel is reported to have an owner and Chinese crew. The development comes as US President Donald Trump is visiting China from Wednesday to Friday.

Regional tensions in the Middle East have escalated since the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran on February 28, prompting retaliation from Tehran against Israel as well as US allies in the Persian Gulf, along with the closing of the Strait of Hormuz.

A ceasefire was entered into. power on April 8 through Pakistani mediation, but talks in Islamabad failed to produce a lasting agreement. The truce was later extended indefinitely by Trump, paving the way for diplomacy for a permanent solution to the conflict.

Since April 13, the US has implemented a naval blockade targeting Iranian maritime traffic in the waterways. Trump announced Tuesday that the U.S. military will temporarily halt Operation Project Freedom to restore freedom of navigation for merchant ships through Hormuz.

Trump said the U.S. blockade will remain in place and in full effect.
