The emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has emphasized the need to prioritize “political and diplomatic solutions” to strengthen regional stability during talks with US President Donald Trump, reports Anadolu.
Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported that the emir of Qatar received a phone call from Trump and that the two leaders reviewed the latest political and security developments in the Middle East between ongoing regional and international efforts to reduce tensions and improve stability.
During the talks, the Emir of Qatar emphasized the importance of “dialogue between all parties” in a way that contributes to “regional security and stability” and prevents further escalation in the region.
Trump expressed appreciation for Qatar’s role in supporting Pakistan’s mediation efforts and facilitating communication channels between the various parties.
The President The American also praised Qatar’s efforts to “narrow differences” and support the processes of reducing tensions in the region.
The two sides also discussed the strategic relationship between Doha and Washington and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various sectors in accordance with the common interests of both countries.
Tensions in the Middle East have escalated since the US and Israel launched attacks against Iran in February.
Tehran retaliated with attacks targeting Israel as well as US allies in the Persian Gulf, along with closing the Strait of Hormuz.
A cease-fire took effect on April 8 through Pakistani mediation, but subsequent talks in Islamabad failed to produce a lasting agreement. Trump later extended the ceasefire indefinitely.
Since then, the two sides have continued to exchange proposals and counterproposals in an attempt to resume direct talks and end the conflict.
