Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan recalled the capture of Constantinople on the occasion of the 573rd anniversary of this great event in world history, commenting that “there are those who still cannot swallow this fact”.
Erdogan declared in his speech that “Istanbul has been our homeland since 1453, it is the light of our nation’s eyes, a source of pride, like a Turkish Constantinople”. “But we know that there are still those who cannot accept this. There are those who still cannot swallow the loss of Constantinople. There are those who cannot escape the clutches of 573 years of anger,” he said. Then he addressed the journalists gathered outside the monument.
“Today is Friday, May 29. On this day, Mehmet Fatihu triumphed here. It is something unique.” /square
