Bulgaria has extended the deployment of US aircraft at Sofia airport only until the end of next month, amid a visa dispute with Washington, reports Anadolu.
Citing the government’s Intelligence Service, the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) reported that the government has decided to extend the deployment of up to 15 US aircraft, along with support personnel and personnel, to Bulgaria until June 30, 2026. equipment.
According to Decision No. 205 of March 4, 2026, the Council of Ministers authorized the non-military deployment in Bulgaria of up to 15 aircraft and up to 500 support personnel from the US at Sofia’s Vasil Levski Airport.
The decision followed the earlier statement by Prime Minister Rumen Radev, who said that the Council of Ministers will approve the extension of the aircraft’s stay until the end of June, to give them “our allies the opportunity to reorganize their activities and find another country”.
Earlier this month, Radev held a conversation with the US president, Donald Trump, and requested the suspension of the visa system for Bulgarian citizens to travel to the US.
