Frequent donors may have greater health protection

Frequent blood donors have benefits for the body.

Who donates blood continuously, three times a year, have observed genetic fluctuations that promote a new generation of cells to replace the lost ones, and without mutations that may favor tumor pathology.

The discovery that was made by a group of universities and British and German medical institutes, is quite important as it serves to clarify the development of mutations in the blood, typical with the advancement of age and which bring serious diseases.

The authors of the study have observed two groups for 40 years, in the first they were chronic donors with 3 times a year, while in the second, sporadic donors.

At the same time, experiments with guinea pigs in the laboratory have shown that cell clones with mutations good ones promoted the creation of red blood cells but without causing cancerous mutations in new cells.

The authors of the study hypothesize that the regulation of blood donation helps in the selection of genetic fluctuations that affect cells to respond positively to blood loss.

However, reaching conclusions is still early, as further studies are needed.
