China called on the US and Iran to respect the ceasefire, warning against “resuming hostilities”, reports Anadolu.
“China is deeply concerned about the current situation,” Beijing spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Mao Ning, told reporters.
The Chinese government’s statement came after the US announced that it had carried out strikes on Keshm Island, in what it described as a response to Iran’s attempts to attacks in various parts of the Middle East.
According to the announcement, the US military and its allied forces have intercepted several Iranian missiles and drones.
Kuwait also announced that its air defense systems responded to “hostile” missile and drone attacks in the early hours of Wednesday.
Mao said that “resuming fighting does not serve the interests of nobody”.
“We hope that the relevant parties will appreciate the possibility for peace, respect the commitment to a ceasefire and maintain the momentum of the negotiations, resolve the disputes through political and diplomatic means and reach a complete and long-term ceasefire as soon as possible, creating the necessary conditions for the restoration of peace and tranquility in the Middle East”, she added.
The US and Iran have again exchanged airstrikes, despite the ceasefire that has been in effect since April 8, after the war launched against Iran by the US and Israel on February 28.
