Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan arrived in Indonesia today as part of his Asia-Pacific tour, reports Anadolu.

Fidan was received by his Indonesian counterpart Sugiono in the capital Jakarta.

During his talks with senior officials, Fidan will discuss expanding bilateral cooperation between the two countries, strengthening trade and defense ties, and addressing regional and global security challenges.

Sugiono said it is “always a pleasure” to welcome Fidan to Jakarta.

“Indonesia and Turkey are two nations that stand together when it matters, and Indonesia deeply appreciates Turkey’s steadfast support and solidarity in defending our shared principles,” he wrote on American social media company X.

Turkey is one of the first countries to recognize the independence of Indonesia. Diplomatic relations were established in 1950 while the Turkish Embassy in Jakarta was opened in 1957.

The High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council between Turkey and Indonesia was established in 2022 during the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Bali on the occasion of the G-20 Leaders’ Summit.
