A contemptuous response from the stands of “Air Albania” to the policies of violence and genocide
At 20:00, at the “Air Albania” stadium in the capital, the friendly football match between the representatives of Albania and Israel has started.
However, beyond the sporting importance and technical preparations of both teams, the attention of the public opinion and the media quickly shifted to the tense atmosphere in the stands in front for the referee to whistle for the start of the game.
During the official protocol ceremony, at the moment when the execution of the national anthem of Israel began, a significant part of the fans present in the stadium erupted in whistles and protest calls.
This reaction, which was interpreted as a form of boycott and dissatisfaction with the friendly team, created a rather heated situation on the steps of “Air Albania”.
For many of those present, this collective revolt was seen as the appropriate, legitimate and completely contemptuous response to the representatives of a state that is committing genocide and inhumane crimes against another people.
Due to the high sensitivity surrounding this confrontation, the Albanian authorities had taken extremely strict security measures. Hundreds of police forces and special units were joined by private security agents, who meticulously monitored every entrance and perimeter around the stadium hours before the match.
Strict controls made the entry of fans go slower than usual, testifying to the authorities’ fear of an even harsher popular reaction against the presence of the Israeli team in Tirana. tesheshi
