Protests continue for the fourth day in a row with the motto “Albania is not for sale”

In Albania, protests continue over the issue of the tourist project in the area of Zvërnec in the Vlora District and against construction in protected areas or in cases where ownership is claimed by citizens.

The next protest with the motto “Albania is not for sale”, was held today in Tirana, gathering thousands of citizens, meanwhile it was also accompanied by tensions and clashes between the police and protesters.

Tensions started after the protesters broke the fence. of security stationed on “Dëşmorët e Kombit” Boulevard, marching towards the headquarters of the Prime Minister of Albania, while the police responded with water. Some protesters claimed that pepper spray was also thrown at them.

As in previous protests, the protesters also stood in front of the headquarters of the Prime Minister of Albania, demanding the cancellation of the project in Zvërnec and also demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.

During a protest on May 30 in the Zvërnec area, incidents were recorded, where, according to images published on social networks, some guards of a private company the security forces dragged a citizen away, causing the protests to start in Tirana.

Regarding the case, Prime Minister Rama has stated that the project in Zvërnec is following all legal and environmental procedures, adding that so far there has not been a final project or a full study of the impact on the environment, while he has called on the protesters to talk.

It has also been reported in the media that the Special Prosecutor’s Office against Corruption and Crime of Organized Tirana (SPAK) has begun investigations into the Zvërnec case, while the prosecution has not yet published an official announcement.

The protests were initiated by activists and are supported by citizens, who oppose construction in protected areas in Albania and demand transparency for such projects, meanwhile they have warned of the continuation of the protests.
