Koci warns citizens traveling to Serbia: Be careful with posts on social networks

Lawyer Arianit Koci has called on citizens who plan to travel or transit through Serbia to be careful with the content they have published on social networks and other public platforms on the Internet.

Through a post on Facebook, Koci has emphasized that comments that can be considered offensive, threatening or interpreted as inciting hatred can attract the attention of the Serbian authorities and have legal consequences.

“For those who travel through Serbia. If you are transiting or staying in Serbia, be aware that comments you may have published on social networks, forums or other public platforms on the Internet – if they are offensive, threatening or can be interpreted as inciting hatred – may have legal consequences.
In some cases, such content may be of interest to the Serbian authorities”, Koci wrote.

According to him, depending on the concrete circumstances and the legislation in force in Serbia, citizens may be detained for verification, interviewed and, if the authorities assess that there is a legal basis, face criminal proceedings or for misdemeanors.
