Minister in the Government of Serbia: If I had been in Milosevic’s place, I would have ethnically cleansed Kosovo

Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government in the Government of Serbia, Snezhana Paunović, has provoked numerous reactions after a statement made during an interview for a Serbian media.

During the conversation, Paunović stated that, if she had the same freedom of action as the former Serbian president Slobodan Milosevic, she would have taken measures for the “ethnic cleansing of Kosovo” in 1998.

This statement has been widely distributed on social networks and has caused numerous criticisms, being described as unacceptable and inciting.

The war in Kosovo during the years 1998-1999 was accompanied by the killing of civilians, mass deportations and serious violations of human rights by Serbian forces against the Albanian population.

The statement of the Serbian minister comes at a time when issues related to the past of the war in Kosovo continue to remain a sensitive topic in the relations between Kosovo and Serbia.
